ROGER FUGGINS spends a day with BUSTED
8.30 - I meet the boys on their way to school. On the way, they tell me what they go to school for. "Personally, I love physics" says an enthusiastic Matt. He then proceeds to tell me about a new sub-atomic particle that consists of a strange quark and a charm antiquark (arXiv.org/abs/hep-ex/0406045). James tells Matt to stop being such a gimp and tips me a wink. Slightly worried by this public show of affection, I nevertheless wink back. Charlie nervously talks to his pet potato.
9.00 - We have arrived at school and settled down for registration. Mrs McKenzie tells the boys that they should stop bothering her, because they are too old for school, but Matt just spurts something about the theory of superconductivity and starts to cry. James puts his hand on my knee and tells me that it will be alright. Charlie is in a mood after having a fight with "spuddy".
10.30 - It's break time and the boys are excited about their next lesson, music. "Mr Wilton is going to teach us how to play Chopsticks on the keyboard." We get to the music lesson to find out that Mr Wilton is Ill today and that "the artist once again known as Prince" will cover the lesson. Charlie's potato takes an instant dislike to the diminutive supply teacher whereas James spends the lesson staring at him in wonder. Matt spends five minutes explaining what the symbol Prince once took on actually means in scientific terms.
1.00 - Lunch time and Charlie goes out to play football with his potato. Matt buries his head in a book entitled "Nano-particles is a modern prefabricated neutron controlled world". James is playing kiss chase with everyone he possibly can.
3.45 - It's the end of the school day, and I've had enough of these cretins, and so I go home to the wife, and a mug of Horlicks.
Next Month...Neil Kinnock.
